About University of Seoul
UOS Character 'Iroome'
University of Seoul has a campus area of 426,799 m², making it the seventh largest university in Seoul. The main feature of the campus is that it is almost entirely flat. Only the main and back entrances have a slight slope, but it is not very high, so it is more like a flat road (the slope when entering the campus through the back entrance is significant. The campus is shaped like a basin, with the land becoming lower and flatter towards the centre, where the auditorium is located. Only the central library, dormitories, and the music hall at the foot of Baebongsan Mountain are slightly elevated, but as a result, the music hall has a truly beautiful view. The second feature is that, as a university with a renowned architecture and landscape architecture department, it boasts the most beautiful campus landscape of any university throughout the year. Unlike other universities in the neighbourhood, whose landscapes are limited to a few specific tree species and lack diversity, and whose landscapes are concentrated on the main building and some other buildings, making them scenic only in certain seasons, University of Seoul's landscaping department has a wide variety of tree species and well-considered seasonal placement of flowers and trees with different flowering periods, so no matter what time of year you visit, you can always see a beautiful and colourful campus with flowers in bloom. In fact, the landscape architecture department at Seoul National University is one of the best in Korea and has a long tradition of winning various competitions. The third feature is the harmony between the old red brick buildings and the sleek modern buildings. The red brick buildings include the main building, central library, student centre, auditorium, Bae Bong Hall, Humanities Hall, and Changgong Hall (formerly Gyeongsang Hall), which were designed in the 1980s by Professor Ahn Young-bae of the Department of Architecture and later remodelled. Rumour has it that Professor Ahn was fond of red bricks. The newly built buildings, such as the 100th Anniversary Memorial Hall and the New International School, also use red brick for their exteriors, and as a result, the overall harmony and balance of the campus is beautifully balanced, and the old-fashioned cosiness and sophistication of the new buildings are beautifully combined. This is similar to the beauty of the capital city of Seoul, which combines the beauty of centuries-old traditions with cutting-edge sophistication. In general, the front entrance has a modern feel with many new buildings, while the back entrance has a classic feel with many red brick buildings.
